Role Description: Arcadis is seeking a Senior Resident Engineer to join our team for a significant rail tunnel project in the New York / New Jersey area. In this role, you will act as the main liaison between contractors, site supervisors, and project engineers to resolve on-site issues, clarify project requirements, and ensure smooth coordination and alignment on project objectives. Arcadis is a part of the MPA Delivery Partner team, charged with supporting the Gateway Development Commission delivering the Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP). We are building this delivery team by combining our existing global and local experts and bringing on the additional required talent that will be necessary to deliver the HTP. We are seeking to engage with technical experts excited by this opportunity who would like to join our locally based teams in New York and in New Jersey. Role Accountabilities: Supervise daily construction activities on-site to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and quality standards, particularly in areas involving large shafts, excavation, and Sequential Excavation Method (SEM) tunneling. Enforce safety protocols and monitor compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations specific to heavy civil and tunneling work, including conducting regular safety inspections and initiating corrective actions for any identified risks or non-compliance. Prepare detailed daily and weekly reports on construction progress, site conditions, and any challenges encountered, maintaining comprehensive records of on-site activities, including inspections, test results, and incident reports, ensuring accurate documentation of project milestones. Identify and resolve on-site engineering and construction issues as they arise, particularly those unique to excavation and SEM tunneling operations. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. Professional Engineer (PE) license 12 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with a focus on large shafts, excavation, and tunneling projects. Preference for candidates with specific experience in Sequential Excavation Method (SEM) tunneling. Key Skills and Abilities: Strong ability to act as a liaison between contractors, site supervisors, and project engineers, ensuring effective communication and coordination. Proven track record of enforcing safety protocols and monitoring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations. Excellent skills in preparing detailed reports and maintaining comprehensive records of on-site activities. Demonstrated expertise in identifying and resolving on-site engineering and construction issues, particularly those related to excavation and tunneling operations.
