Role description: Arcadis is looking for an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer in the municipal water/wastewater industry to join our growing Resilience team in Phoenix, Arizona. As an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer, you will collaborate with our experienced team of professionals, providing technical and design consulting services with a focus on instrumentation, controls systems, and associated network and communications infrastructure for municipal water and wastewater conveyance and treatment facilities. Role accountabilities: The Instrumentation and Controls Engineer plays a key role in a collaborative environment, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to evaluate and design control system solutions that meet client needs. They are responsible for preparing technical memorandums and developing various design documents, such as SCADA system architectures, communications system and network designs, process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), SCADA network diagrams, process control functional narratives, control schematics, panel layout diagrams, interconnection diagrams, and other I&C-related designs. In addition to design work, the engineer coordinates with process, mechanical, and electrical engineers to ensure smooth project execution. During construction, the engineer provides essential engineering services, reviewing equipment and software submittals, shop drawings, and responding to contractor requests for information (RFIs). They also conduct field inspections and oversee construction projects, ensuring adherence to the design, performing quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) checks, and monitoring safety compliance. Additionally, the engineer participates in factory testing, site acceptance testing, field inspections, and project startup processes. The role also includes providing electrical design and coordination across multiple projects, with a specific focus on medium and low voltage power distribution, motor controls, lighting, and grounding systems for water and wastewater projects. This multifaceted position requires a strong understanding of both electrical and control systems, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously. Travel will be required to support project needs, mainly in the Phoenix area (approximately 5 to 10% of time). Qualifications & Experience: Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in electrical or controls engineering or a closely related field of study. 0-3+ years of I&C, Automation, and SCADA system design and implementation experience in the water/wastewater field.
